Statement: Canadian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus

Ottawa, ON – Leslyn Lewis, Chair of the Canadian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus, released the following statement in support of Israel in the aftermath of the horrific and unprovoked attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7^th:  

“On behalf of the Canadian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus, I wish to express our unwavering support for Israel and the Jewish people as they have an obligation to protect their citizens and defend itself against the brutal invasion by Hamas, constituting the deadliest attack on the country in its 75-year history.  

“We call upon the Government of Canada to do everything it can to bring home Canadians who are either being held hostage by Hamas or are in danger. We also call upon the Government to continue to push for a humanitarian corridor to Gaza to ensure that the innocent caught in the crosshairs of this war are not left without life-saving food, water, and medical supplies. As civilians move south from Gaza City, the Government must urge all parties to open access at the Rafah crossing to allow Canadian citizens and citizens of other nations to exit Gaza. Finally, it is incumbent upon the countries in the surrounding region to support efforts to minimize the threats to innocent Palestinians. 

“The Canadian Caucus stands united with Israel, the Jewish people and the Jewish community in Canada, now and always. We pray for the peace of Israel and the entire region.”
